Paula Radcliffe and Chris Thompson host marathon training plan podcast
Record-breaking athletes Paula Radcliffe and Chris Thompson are set to co-host a brand-new podcast, Paula’s Marathon Run Club.
From Viral Tribe Entertainment in partnership with Children with Cancer UK, the series will see Paula and Chris give insights on how to run a marathon to support budding runners over their 16-week marathon training plan.
The podcast comes as Paula makes her return to marathon running after announcing her retirement in 2015, and her daughter Isla will be training to run her first one!
Each week, there will be exclusive backstage access to Paula’s journey through the Tokyo, Boston, Dubai and London events, to go behind-the-scenes with a world-record breaking champion.
Episodes will be recorded weekly to bring in the latest interactions with the hosts wherever they are in the world. This will include weekly training plan guidance, expert guest segments from the likes of Nike, physiotherapists, celebrity runners and more, plus important stories from CWC UK and discussion from Paula’s Marathon Run Club community. Celebrity guests will also share their wisdom and stories from their own running experiences.
Paula Radcliffe says: “I am really excited to start this podcast journey with Chris. I would love it to be a platform to celebrate the unique and special marathon family and to provide a fun, welcoming space to bring runners together to learn, share and grow on their marathon journey.
“The London Marathon inspired me many years ago as do the thousands of people who run in aid of Children With Cancer UK – who I am a proud ambassador for. That’s why it’s important that we tell their stories on this podcast too – stories that remind us of what remains to be achieved in fighting cancer and supporting those facing that challenge.
“Running a marathon is very much an individual pursuit, but what makes it brilliant is the camaraderie and spirit you build with those you run with. My goal is that we help you make the very most of your marathon experience and answer any questions you have and be there every step of the way.”
Chris Thompson adds: “After recently retiring from elite sport, l’ve turned my attention to new passions and equally challenging goals. I’m so excited to begin my next chapter alongside a great friend in Paula, on a joint quest to support the wonderful community of runners and those on their journey through to the London Marathon.
“Using a podcast platform, I can’t wait to help and shout about the amazing stories and achievements of everyone who tunes in. There’ll be plenty of fun along the way.”
Amar Naher, CEO, Children with Cancer UK comments: “The London Marathon holds a very special place in the charity’s heart.
“Every year, we are honoured to be represented by more runners than any other charity, and each and every one of those involved helps raise vital funds to ensure we can do what we do – find kinder and gentler treatments for those going through a cancer diagnosis, as well as fund vital research into finding a cure, so that one day every child and young person survives cancer.
“It’s wonderful that – with this podcast – we can give back to a running community who have supported us for so many years.
“Podcasts are a vital way to reach an audience – it’s no longer enough to simply post a message and hope people find you – and to that end I would like to finally thank our long standing ambassador Paula Radcliffe and her co-host Chris Thompson for giving up their time to make this podcast for us – I could think of no better mentors to help get people ready for 21 April.”
